Fact file: the Year 8 sponsored walk

These are the Head of Year’s notes, in the order she wrote them down. The school, the town of Llanbedr-ar-Fryn, the food bank and every person named here are invented.

Notes from Mrs Bethan Lloyd, Head of Year 8, Ysgol Llanbedr

Year 8 sponsored walk — raising money for Banc Bwyd Llanbedr, the town’s food bank. They say summer is when they need most help, because families lose free school meals in the holidays.
Friday 19 June. Whole of Year 8.
Route: 8 km along the Afon Wen riverside path, from school to Pentre Isaf and back. Flat all the way.
Short route of 3 km for anyone who cannot walk the full distance — or they can help at the water station. Pupils speak to Mrs Lloyd by Friday 12 June.
CHANGE!! Start time moved from 9:00 to 9:30. The footpath by the Old Bridge is closed until 9:15 that morning for repair work.
Pupils still come to school at the normal time. After registration they wait in the hall until we set off.
Back at school about 2:30pm. Buses home as normal.
Bring: full water bottle, packed lunch, waterproof coat, sun cream, comfortable shoes they have already worn (no new shoes — blisters!).
Free school meal pupils: packed lunch from the canteen, but it must be ordered by Monday 15 June.
Sponsor forms given out Monday 8 June. Money and forms back by Friday 26 June — on the school payment app, or cash in a named envelope to the form tutor.
Last year’s Year 8 raised £1,860. Target this year: £2,000.
If there is a Met Office weather warning for rain, the walk moves to Friday 26 June. Decision by 7:30am on the day, on the school app and the website.

Questions to Mrs Lloyd through the school office.

[Photograph] About twenty Year 8 pupils in raincoats standing on a riverside path under a grey sky, laughing. Two at the front are holding a hand-painted banner that says “Walking for Banc Bwyd Llanbedr”. A stone bridge is behind them.
