dcf.cymru stimulus sheet · Humanities · Year 1
The people on the cards are simple drawings of the kinds of people pupils know. The game, the player name SpeedyFox22, the messages and the video call are all invented for practice: they are not real people, real apps or real messages.
Print page 1 (the 8 picture cards), one set between two, and cut along the dashed lines. If you cannot cut the cards, pairs can point at the pictures on the uncut sheet. Print pages 2 and 3 (the 3 pretend tablet screens and the rule) once for you to hold up and show the class, or display them on the board. Read the words on each screen aloud: Year 1 pupils will not be able to read them alone.
Answers: people we know, 5 (people at home, teacher, crossing patrol, friend, shopkeeper); people we have never met, 3 (the game chat player, the message from an unknown number, the video call from an unknown caller). For every screen the safe choice is to tell a grown-up you trust.

Read aloud: “A player called SpeedyFox22 says: hi! you are really good at this game. What is your name?” Ask: “Have we ever met SpeedyFox22? What should we do?”
Read aloud: “A message from an unknown number says: Hello! What is your name? Where do you live?” Ask: “Do we know who sent this? What should we do?”
Read aloud: “Someone we do not know is trying to video call. We cannot see who it is.” Ask: “Should we answer? What should we do?” (Do not answer. Tell a grown-up you trust. Pressing the red button is fine, and we still tell a grown-up.)
If someone I have never met talks to me online, I tell a grown-up I trust.
