Bryn Ysgawen is an invented village. The search results page is a printed mock-up. Results 1, 3 and 4 are real pages, quoted word for word as they appeared in 2026, and their full addresses are at the bottom so you can check them. Results 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 are invented, but each one shows a problem you will meet in real searches.
Bryn Ysgawen community council wants to set up a community energy scheme and has asked Year 9 to research which renewable energy source would suit the village best. Here is what you know about the village:
| Resource | Where the energy comes from | Reliability |
|---|---|---|
| Wind | The kinetic energy store of moving air turns the blades. A generator transfers the energy electrically. | Varies with the weather and is hard to predict more than a few days ahead. No output in calm weather. |
| Hydroelectric | Water high up has a gravitational potential energy store. As it falls, this is transferred to a kinetic energy store, which turns a turbine and generator. | Steady from day to day but depends on rainfall, so output is lower in dry spells. |
| Solar (photovoltaic) | Light from the Sun is transferred to electricity directly in the solar cells. There are no moving parts. | Daylight only. Output is much lower in winter and on cloudy days. |
| Tidal | The gravitational pull of the Moon (and the Sun) moves sea water. Turbines are turned by the kinetic energy store of the moving tide. | Very predictable, years in advance. Only possible on the coast. |
| Biomass (wood fuel) | The chemical energy store in wood is released as heat when it burns. | Available whenever it is needed, if fuel is stored. Only renewable if the trees are replanted. |
