Print: this sheet and the stimulus sheet "Shared area printout: 7B Geography — rivers fieldwork", one of each per pupil. This is a pen-and-paper lesson. No computers are needed at any point — pupils are designing a structure, not clicking through one.
Run: 5 min read the printout and count the problems · 10 min design the folder tree in the frame · 8 min write the naming rule · 17 min work through the decision table, file by file · 7 min write three sharing rules · 3 min swap with a partner: could they find the velocity data in your structure in under ten seconds?
Collect: this sheet. There is no single right answer — the marks are for a structure that is consistent, a naming rule that is actually followed in the decision table, and sensible reasoning about the duplicates.
Class 7B came back from the Afon Teifi at Cenarth and dumped twenty-six files into one shared folder. Nobody can find anything and nobody knows which report is the newest. You are going to design the folder structure and the file-naming rule they should have agreed before the trip, then apply it to their actual files.
Indent each level. Put the top folder at the left, its sub-folders one step in, and so on.

Think about who may view, who may edit, and what happens when somebody wants to get rid of another person's file.
Give your sheet to a partner. Ask them: "using only my folder tree and my naming rule, where would you look for the velocity readings from the trip?" Write what they said and whether they were right.
