LNF: Numeracy → Learning that statistics represent data and that probability models chance helps us make informed inferences and decisions → Interpreting data
Enw: Dosbarth: Dyddiad:
What this practises: numeracy in GCSE Core Cymraeg (WJEC, Made for Wales). Unit 2 stimulus sheets “may include a graph/chart, facts and/or statistics and image(s)” (Unit 2 overview), and Unit 3, 3.1.2 Reading, includes non-continuous texts such as tables and graphs. Pupils read a scale, calculate percentage change, turn fractions into percentages and test a news claim, then describe the figures in Welsh. The talk in Step 6 is practice only, not NEA work, on an invented stimulus sheet.
Print: this sheet, one per pupil, and the stimulus sheet “Gŵyl Werin Llanfeirion”, one between two. Calculators help in Steps 2 and 3. The figures are also in llanfeirion-festival-visitors.csv. An English translation is at the bottom of the stimulus sheet.
Run: 5 min read the stimulus in pairs · 6 min Step 1 · 10 min Step 2, the line graph · 8 min Step 3, the pie chart · 7 min Step 4, the article · 12 min Step 5, writing alone and in silence · 8 min Step 6, talking in pairs, about 3 minutes each way.
Collect: this sheet. Checks you can make without any Welsh: each line on the scale is worth 500; the only fall is 2024, 2,500 to 2,000, −20%; the other changes are +50%, +33.3%, +100%. Step 3: 2,000, 1,000, 600, 400; two fifths = 40% = 1,600 people; three quarters = 75% = 30 stalls. Step 4: the false claim is number 3, “grown every year”. No dictionaries or notes in Step 6.
Rwyt ti’n darllen graff llinell, siart cylch ac erthygl am ŵyl werin yn Llanfeirion. Rwyt ti’n darllen y raddfa, yn cyfrifu newid canrannol, yn troi ffracsiynau yn ganrannau ac yn profi a yw’r erthygl yn gywir. Wedyn rwyt ti’n ysgrifennu ac yn siarad yn Gymraeg am y ffigurau.
You read a line graph, a pie chart and an article about a folk festival. You read the scale, calculate percentage change, turn fractions into percentages and test whether the article is accurate. Then you write and speak in Welsh about the figures.
Ysgrifenna’r ystyr yn Saesneg. Write the meaning in English.

Llenwa’r bylchau. Fill the gaps with a word from the table. 50% = __________ 25% = __________ 75% = __________ 40% = __________ tua 33% = tua __________
(a) Faint yw gwerth pob llinell ar y raddfa, gan gynnwys y llinellau tenau (- - -)? How much is each line on the scale worth, including the dashed lines? __________
(b) Darllen nifer yr ymwelwyr bob blwyddyn. Read the number of visitors each year.

(c) Cyfrifa’r newid a’r newid canrannol. Work out the change and the percentage change. Show your working. Newid canrannol = newid ÷ y ffigur cyntaf × 100 (change ÷ the starting figure × 100)

(d) Cododd y nifer 1,000 ddwywaith, ond mae’r newid canrannol yn llai yr ail dro. Pam? Cei di ateb yn Saesneg. The number rose by 1,000 twice, but the percentage change is smaller the second time. Why? You may answer in English.
(a) Roedd 4,000 o ymwelwyr yn 2026. Llenwa’r tabl. There were 4,000 visitors in 2026. Complete the table.

(b) Dwy ran o bump yn siarad Cymraeg = ______ % = ______ o bobl. Two fifths spoke Welsh: what percentage, and how many people?
(c) Tri chwarter o’r 40 stondin = ______ % = ______ stondin. Three quarters of the 40 stalls: what percentage, and how many stalls?
(a) Rho ✓ neu ✗ a ffigur fel tystiolaeth. Give a tick or a cross and a figure as evidence.

(b) Ysgrifenna frawddeg gywir yn Gymraeg yn lle’r honiad anghywir. Write a correct sentence in Welsh to replace the false claim.
(c) Mae’r trefnwyr yn cyfrif tocynnau yn unig. Pwy sydd ddim yn y ffigurau? Pam dylen ni fod yn ofalus? The organisers count tickets only. Who is not in the figures? Why should we be careful? You may answer in English.
Ysgrifenna 80 i 110 gair yn Gymraeg. Rhaid cael: dau ffigur o’r graff, un newid canrannol, un gair ffracsiwn, yr amser gorffennol (Yn 2024, roedd... / Daeth...), cywiro’r honiad anghywir, barn gyda rheswm a Byddwn i / Byddai.
Write 80 to 110 words in Welsh with two figures from the graph, one percentage change, one fraction word, the past tense, a correction of the false claim, an opinion with a reason, and “Byddwn i / Byddai” (I would / it would).
Help: Mae’r graff llinell yn dangos ... · Mae nifer yr ymwelwyr wedi dyblu / codi / gostwng o ... i ... · Roedd cynnydd / gostyngiad o ...% · Daeth hanner / chwarter yr ymwelwyr o ... · Mae’r erthygl yn anghywir achos ... · Yn fy marn i, ... oherwydd ... · Byddwn i’n hoffi ...
