Rheolau sylwadau ar-lein / Writing Welsh rules for online comments

DCF: Citizenship → Online behaviour and online bullying

Enw: Dosbarth: Dyddiad:

Cover teacher: you need no Welsh at all

What this practises: recognising unkind and unsafe behaviour in public comments under a school video (an anonymous nasty comment, agreeing with it, sharing someone’s address, a spam link from a hacked account, shouting), deciding what a good bystander does, and writing commenting rules in Welsh. Each rule must give a reason with a Welsh connective (achos, oherwydd, felly, ond, os) and use a set sentence pattern, so the rules are evidence of connectives and sentence structure.

Print: this sheet, one per pupil, and the stimulus sheet “Sylwadau ar fideo côr Blwyddyn 8”, one between two. No computers are needed. If any pupil seems upset by the topic, let them work on Cam 3 and 4 only and tell their form tutor.

Run: 5 min read the comments together · 8 min Cam 1 · 10 min Cam 2 · 10 min Cam 3 · 17 min Cam 4, alone · 5 min Cam 5 in pairs. Total 55 minutes.

Collect: this sheet. Checks you can make without any Welsh: in Cam 1, comments 1, 2, 5, 7 and 10 are fine; 3, 4 and 6 are nasty or unsafe; 8 and 9 are other problems (spam from a hacked account, shouting). In Cam 4, each of the 6 rules should contain one of these connectives: achos, oherwydd, felly, ond, os.

Beth wyt ti’n ei wneud

Mae Clwb Cymraeg yr ysgol wedi rhoi fideo ar-lein. Mae rhai sylwadau yn gas. Rwyt ti’n ysgrifennu rheolau ar gyfer y sylwadau yn Gymraeg.

The school’s Welsh Club has put a video online. Some comments are nasty or unsafe. You decide what went wrong, what a good bystander does, and write commenting rules in Welsh, each with a reason.

Cam 1: caredig neu gas? / kind or nasty?

Darllen y sylwadau. Rho bob sylw yn y tabl. Read the comments on the stimulus sheet. Put each comment number in the table.

Caredig neu iawn (kind or fine)Cas neu beryglus (nasty or unsafe)Problem arall (another problem)

Mali only wrote “Haha, cytuno!”. Why is that a problem? Answer in English.

Cam 2: beth aeth o’i le? / what went wrong?

Answer in English.

(a) Comment 3 is from an anonymous account. Why do some people write nasty comments when nobody can see their name? How do you think Lili felt? Use comment 5.

(b) Comment 6 is the most dangerous comment. Explain why, even if Twm thinks it is a joke.

(c) Gwion says he did not write comment 8. What has probably happened, and what should he do now?

(d) Cerys wrote “Stopiwch”. Write two more things a good bystander could do: one online and one offline.

Cam 3: cysylltu brawddegau / joining sentences

Ysgrifenna un frawddeg. Defnyddia’r cysylltair. Join each pair into one sentence using the connective given. Section 5 of the stimulus sheet helps.

(a) Mae Lili yn drist. Mae’r sylw yn gas. (achos)

(b) Mae’r ddolen yn rhyfedd. Paid â chlicio arni hi. (felly)

(c) Mae’r fideo yn hir. Mae’r unawd yn wych. (ond)

(d) Rwyt ti’n gweld sylw cas. Dweda wrth oedolyn. (os) Careful: what happens to “rwyt ti” after os?

Cam 4: rheolau’r sylwadau / the commenting rules

Ysgrifenna 6 rheol ar gyfer sylwadau ar fideos yr ysgol. Write 6 rules in Welsh for comments on the school’s videos. Each rule must:

Help: Paid â rhannu cyfeiriad unrhyw un, achos ... · Paid â chlicio ar ddolenni rhyfedd, achos ... · Paid ag ysgrifennu mewn llythrennau mawr, achos ... · Rhaid i ni fod yn garedig, ond ... · Dylen ni ysgrifennu sylwadau caredig, felly ... · Os wyt ti’n gweld sylw cas, ...

Cam 5: gwirio / checking

Swap with a partner. Read their rules aloud. Underline every connective. Circle any rule without a reason. Then fill in:

Connectives used: ______   Patterns used (Paid â, Rhaid i ni, Dylen ni, Os): ______   Rules without a reason: ______
