Redrawing a Misleading Screen Time Chart
DCF: Data and computational thinking → Data and information literacy
Numeracy in IT: representing data honestly. An invented parents' social media post uses a bar chart with an axis starting at 3.3 hours to claim Year 11 pupils spend eight times as long on screens as Year 7 pupils. Pupils list what is misleading, show that the bar looks 8 times taller but the real figure is only 1.2 times bigger (42 minutes, a 20.6% increase), redraw the chart on a grid with an axis from 0, a suitable scale, labels and a title, then calculate sector angles (3 degrees per pupil) and draw a pie chart of 120 Year 10 pupils' main screen activity with a protractor. They explain which chart suits which data and write a fair headline. Practice only, not NEA work.

Debugging a Payslip Spreadsheet
DCF: Data and computational thinking → Problem-solving and modelling
GCSE Mathematics and Numeracy Unit 1: Financial Mathematics and Other Applications of Numeracy, section 1.8 personal/household finance: wages and salaries, including payslips, and taxation, including income tax and National Insurance. Pupils read a payslip and the real 2026 to 2027 rules for a Welsh taxpayer (tax code C1257L), work out gross pay, taxable pay, income tax, National Insurance and net pay by hand with a calculator, then use their answers to test a printed café pay spreadsheet. They run the same four checks on every row, read the formula view to find and fix 4 planted errors (a wrong cell reference, tax on gross pay, a hard-coded old National Insurance rate and a SUM that misses a row), trace each error to the cells it affected, and extend the model with an overtime formula that they test by hand.

Misleading Graphs in the Media
DCF: Data and computational thinking → Data and information literacy
Pupils examine five invented graphs from a newsletter, an advert, a club report, an online poll and a governors' report, name the trick in each and spot the one that is fair. They measure the false impression in numbers, from percentage points against percentage change to area scale factors and a pie chart that adds up to 120%, redraw a truncated bar chart honestly and write a five-question checklist for any graph they meet online.

Reading a Spanish Survey on Teenage Free Time
DCF: Data and computational thinking → Data and information literacy
GCSE Spanish Unit 4 Reading and Writing (Areas of content, page 18): numbers, fractions and graphs in Spanish texts. Pupils read an invented survey of 300 young people by the youth centre in Montealbar, a Spanish town: a magazine article with six claims, a bar chart and three tables of hours per week, counts by age group and a one-week diary. They turn phrases such as dos de cada tres and diecinueve de cada veinte into fractions and percentages, compare age groups, and use mean, median and range on two diary groups, one with a 38-hour outlier. They test the six claims (two are not supported), explain why the chart's axis misleads, and write two English sentences on the trend and two Spanish sentences with their own figures and opinion.

Social Media Opinions in French
DCF: Citizenship → Online behaviour and online bullying
Pupils read an invented French social media thread under a teenager's talent-show video, sort ten comments into support, respectful criticism, hurtful comments and bystander action, and identify what turns an opinion into online bullying. They rewrite two hurtful comments as respectful French opinions and write an 80 to 100 word blog post on giving an opinion online without hurting anyone.

Music Technology Effects in a Mix
DCF: Producing → Creating digital content
GCSE Music Unit 3: Appraising, content 1.3.1: identifying and describing how music technology has been used to create aural effects, using the Technology terms in the specification's glossary. With no audio needed, pupils read the full DAW session of an invented Welsh-language pop song (arrange window, plug-ins and automation) and match eight listeners' comments to the technology that caused them: sampling, equalisation, panning, delay, autotune, drum machine, reverb, multitrack recording and phasing. They time a delay to the tempo in milliseconds, link the number of tracks to texture, write an exam-style description of the bridge and final chorus, and plan a new mix for a late-night radio session.

Fitness Apps and Body Image
DCF: Citizenship → Health and well-being
Pupils judge six invented fitness app screens by what each one really counts or rewards and whether its message is about how a body looks or what it can do, backing every verdict with an accurate fact about activity, rest or edited images. They rewrite three harmful notifications, choose safe default settings for a 15-year-old's account, and write a kind reply to a worried friend that names a trusted adult and a helpline. Pupils never measure or describe their own bodies.

Modelling Heart Rate Training Zones
DCF: Data and computational thinking → Problem-solving and modelling
GCSE Physical Education and Health Unit 1, section 1.2.4 Energy systems and training zones. Pupils take apart an invented running coach's spreadsheet model that turns age into aerobic and anaerobic training zones: they name its inputs, processes and outputs, find and fix four formula errors, run the model for two new athletes, and use it to judge five heart rate watch sessions, naming the zone and the predominant energy system. They then write and boundary-test an IF rule that names the zone, and explain why a 5-second sprint fools the model.

Think Before You Share: Photos and Consent
DCF: Citizenship → Identity, image and reputation
Pupils decide what should happen to eight photos, from a group selfie to an image passed round a group chat, naming whose consent matters and what could go wrong. They find the hidden clues in a first-day selfie, including the location stored in the file, write a consent request and a take-down request, check four facts about the law, and build a five-question checklist to use before posting. No images or devices are used.

Religion in Wales: Reading the Census
DCF: Data and computational thinking → Data and information literacy

Using real census figures for Wales and Rhondda Cynon Taf from 2001, 2011 and 2021, pupils group six smaller religions, calculate percentages, compare percentage point and percentage change, and draw percentage bars. They test four invented social media posts against the figures, name what the census cannot measure, and write a careful paragraph linking the trend to same-sex marriage and no-fault divorce without claiming cause.
