Skills for Life: Mental Health and Wellbeing
Mae disgrifiad y cymhwyster yn Saesneg yn unig, gan ei fod wedi ei gymryd o fanyleb Saesneg Pearson.
Mental health and wellbeing is a Pearson Skills for Life unit in which learners recognise emotions in themselves and others, identify warning signs and triggers, suggest steps to stay mentally strong and find out where to get support; at Level 1 and Level 2 they create a personal mental health and wellbeing plan. It is one 20 hour unit that learners combine with others into a Pearson Skills for Life Award, Certificate or Diploma, from Entry 1 to Level 2. Digital demand is low: no assessment criterion needs a device. Annexe C links the unit to online support resources and wellbeing information, and learners must reference sources and acknowledge any AI they use.

- Entry Level (Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3): One assessment criterion at each of Entry 1, Entry 2 and Entry 3: state, outline or identify the characteristics of good mental health and emotional wellbeing, steps or measures to protect them, and where to get support. The essential information for assessment decisions sets the number of warning signs and steps at each level (two, three and four). Centres choose the type of evidence and set and mark the assessment, adapting Pearson's Authorised Assignment Brief or devising their own, internally verified and quality assured by Pearson standards verification. 20 guided learning hours.
- Level 1 and Level 2: One assessment criterion at each of Level 1 and Level 2: describe (Level 1) or explain (Level 2) the characteristics of good mental health and emotional wellbeing and create a simple (Level 1) or detailed (Level 2) personal mental health and wellbeing plan, with Level 2 including a practical safety plan. Centres choose the type of evidence and set and mark the assessment, internally verified and quality assured by Pearson standards verification. Graded Pass or Fail. 20 guided learning hours.

Referencing sources and acknowledging AI in evidence
Learners at every level must certify that their evidence is their own, reference any sources they used and clearly acknowledge any AI tools, keeping the final work in their own words. This applies to all submitted evidence for the unit, and using AI without acknowledging it is malpractice.

Paratoi disgyblion
- Blwyddyn 7
- Pupils add a sources list to a fact sheet about emotions, writing the website name and page title for each fact they used.
- Blwyddyn 8
- Pupils use a chatbot to suggest coping strategies, check two of them against an NHS page, then write their own version with a note saying how AI was used.
- Blwyddyn 9
- Pupils discuss why handing in AI written work as their own would be malpractice and write a full reference list for a short wellbeing guide.

Da gwybod
- The unit is listed as "SfL 18 Mental health and wellbeing" with a Unit GLH of 20 (Unit summary, page 5). It counts towards the Pearson Skills for Life qualifications, for example C00/5444/7 "Pearson Level 2 Skills for Life Award" (Qualification titles, page 4).
- A unit counts only once: "Learners can only achieve each unit once, at a single level" (Rules of Combination, page 6, and Assessment of units, page 9), so schools should decide which level each learner is working towards.
- The essential information sets counts at each level, for example Level 1 learners "describe at least five basic warning signs or triggers" (page 88), and Level 2 learners create a plan "including a practical-based safety plan" (page 89).
- The required teaching content is in a separate document: it "can be found in the Teaching and Learning Support document for this unit" (Unit content, page 88). Annexe E says the content includes "boundaries and consent" and Welsh support services such as "MEIC, Mind Cymru" (page 172).
- Evidence is flexible: "there are no mandatory evidence requirements and centres can select the type of evidence" (Essential information for assessment decisions, page 88), and the unit should be assessed "over a number of sessions" (Assessment arrangements, page 89).
- AI must be acknowledged: "A learner will have committed malpractice if they use AI tools without acknowledging them" (Requirements relating to permitted/prohibited resources, page 90).
- Units and the qualifications are "graded Pass/Fail" (Unit and Qualification Grading, page 7), and learners "can be assessed in Welsh or English" (Language of assessment, page 8).

Mental health and wellbeing links with WJEC GCSE Physical Education and Health, which explores how experiences affect mental health, and with GCSE Health and Social Care, and Childcare and the WJEC Foundation in Health and Social Care, and Childcare, which cover factors affecting wellbeing and sources of support. Within the WJEC Skills Suite it sits next to Healthy Relationships, Looking After Others, Understanding Self and Others, Online Safety and Wellbeing and Work. Compared with the WJEC Mental health and wellbeing unit, which centres on asking for and offering support and trying out and reflecting on wellbeing strategies, the Pearson unit focuses on warning signs and triggers and, at Level 1 and Level 2, on producing a personal mental health and wellbeing plan, with a safety plan at Level 2. Neither version requires digital work.
