Skills for Work: Fairness and Inclusion in the Workplace
Mae disgrifiad y cymhwyster yn Saesneg yn unig, gan ei fod wedi ei gymryd o fanyleb Saesneg Pearson.
Fairness and inclusion in the workplace is a Skills for Work unit in which learners find out what makes a workplace inclusive and fair, such as respect, equal opportunities, accessible environments and inclusive language, and plan how to develop their own open communication skills in their setting. It is one 10 hour unit that learners combine with others into a Pearson Skills for Work Award, Certificate or Diploma, from Entry 1 to Level 2, and it is assessed internally by the centre. Digital demand is low: no criterion is digital. Pearson maps the unit only to digital search, learners gather information from given sources such as workplace case studies, and they must reference sources and acknowledge any AI used.

- Entry Level (Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3): One assessment criterion at each Entry level: learners state the meaning of (Entry 1), outline the key features of (Entry 2) or identify the features of (Entry 3) a fair and inclusive workplace, and give one way, ways, or at Entry 3 a simple plan, to develop their own skills to support open communication in their own setting. Evidence is assessed internally by the centre through a centre-devised assignment, which can be based on Pearson's Authorised Assignment Brief, and is quality assured by Pearson standards verification. 10 guided learning hours.
- Level 1 and Level 2: One assessment criterion at each level: learners describe (Level 1) or explain (Level 2) the features of an inclusive and fair workplace and produce an appropriate (Level 1) or detailed (Level 2) plan for developing skills and strategies to support open communication in their own setting. Evidence is assessed internally by the centre and quality assured by Pearson standards verification. 10 guided learning hours.

Finding examples of inclusive workplace practice
Learners give examples of how workplaces are inclusive and fair, from one example at Entry 1 to at least five at Level 2, gathering information from given sources such as simple workplace case studies. The criteria require the examples, but searching for them online is only suggested by Pearson's mapping to digital search, and the centre provides the sources.

Paratoi disgyblion
- Blwyddyn 7

- Pupils use two different sets of keywords to find a news story about an accessible workplace and note which search worked better.
- Blwyddyn 9
- Pupils find three examples of inclusive workplace policies online, check whether each source is the employer itself or a third party, and judge which is most reliable.

Referencing sources and acknowledging AI tools
At every level learners must certify that their evidence is their own, reference the sources they used and acknowledge any AI tools, and the final submission must be in their own words. This applies to every assessment for the unit.

Recognising inclusive and offensive language in communication
Entry 2 learners give examples of features of an inclusive workplace such as using inclusive language, and the unit's aim includes language as part of an inclusive workplace. The specification does not mention online communication, so applying this to emails, messages and online posts is a teaching link rather than an assessment requirement.

Producing a communication development plan as a digital document
Entry 3 learners produce a simple plan, Level 1 learners an appropriate plan and Level 2 learners a detailed plan for developing skills and strategies to support open communication in their own setting, and Level 2 learners organise and present their findings clearly. The plan is required, but making it as a digital document is the centre's choice.

Da gwybod
- The unit is listed as "SfW 1 Fairness and Inclusion in the Workplace 10", so it is only 10 guided learning hours (Unit summary, page 5), half the 20 hours of the WJEC unit with the same title.
- A unit can be passed only once: "Learners can only achieve each unit once, at a single level" (Rules of Combination, page 6).
- Evidence is flexible: "there are no mandatory evidence requirements and centres can select the type of evidence" (Essential information for assessment decisions, page 13), and the teaching content is in the separate "Teaching and Learning Support document" (Unit content, page 13).
- Learners work from sources the centre provides: Level 2 learners "select and use relevant information from a limited range of given sources" (Levels of supervision and support, page 14).
- AI may be used but must be acknowledged: "A learner will have committed malpractice if they use AI tools without acknowledging them" (Requirements relating to permitted/prohibited resources, page 14).
- The Skills for Work specification refers to the other pathway in one place: "Every unit in our Skills for Life qualifications includes an Authorised Assessment Brief" (Authorised Assignment Briefs, page 8), which appears to be a copying error.

Compared with the WJEC Fairness and inclusion in the workplace unit, the Pearson unit is half the size at 10 guided learning hours instead of 20, has one criterion per level rather than three learning outcomes, and centres on features of an inclusive workplace and a personal plan for open communication, whereas the WJEC unit spends more time on what diversity means, its benefits and treating others with respect. Pearson maps the unit to Humanities.
