GCSE Computer Science
Mae disgrifiad y cymhwyster yn Saesneg yn unig, gan ei fod wedi ei gymryd o fanyleb Saesneg CBAC.
Both units are sat on screen. Unit 1 tests theory (algorithms, data representation, networks, cybersecurity, logic, the systems development life cycle) and Unit 2 asks learners to design, write, test and refine Python 3 programs with a Tkinter interface in IDLE against a pre-released scenario. The single biggest thing KS3 should build is confident algorithm design and debugging: pupils who can decompose a problem, write it as a flowchart or pseudocode, then code, test and fix it arrive ready for Unit 2.

Sut mae'r cymhwyster hwn yn cael ei asesu
- Unit 1: Understanding Computer Science: Digital examination 1 hour 30 minutes, 50%, 80 marks
- Unit 2: Computer Programming: On-screen examination based on a pre-released brief, 2 hours, 50%, 80 marks, set and marked by WJEC
Sgiliau sy'n defnyddio Ymddygiad ar-lein a bwlio ar-lein
-
Recognising cyber threats and protecting personal data
Learners know threats such as malware, phishing and other social engineering, brute force and data interception, and the purpose of protections such as passwords, multifactor authentication, backups, firewalls and encryption.
DCF: Hunaniaeth, delwedd ac enw da, Cyfnewid a rhannu gwybodaeth, Ymddygiad ar-lein a bwlio ar-lein
Paratoi disgyblion
- Blwyddyn 7
- Pupils sort a set of real and fake emails into 'safe' and 'phishing' and highlight the clues that gave each fake away.
- Blwyddyn 8
- Pupils test sample passwords against a strength checklist, then set up multifactor authentication on their school Microsoft 365 account.
- Blwyddyn 9
- Pupils encrypt and decrypt messages with a Caesar cipher by hand, then discuss why brute force breaks it and why modern encryption does not.

“social engineering such as phishing, pretexting, baiting, quid pro quo and impersonation”
Cam cynnydd 3
Rwy'n gallu deall sut i ddiogelu fy hunan rhag cael fy hunaniaeth wedi'i ddwyn ar-lein, e.e. adnabod gwefannau diogel, gwe-rwydo, gwefannau sgamio.
Rwy'n gallu nodi manteision a risgiau rhoi gwybodaeth bersonol a rhoi mynediad i wahanol feddalwedd i ddyfeisiau.
Cam cynnydd 4
Rwy'n gallu defnyddio strategaethau ar gyfer gwarchod fy hun rhag cael fy hunaniaeth wedi'i ddwyn ar-lein a rhag sgamiau sy'n ceisio cael mynediad at fy ngwybodaeth bersonol ar-lein.
Rwy'n gallu dangos ymwybyddiaeth o amgryptio syml a diben amgryptio, e.e. anfon data sensitif yn fwy diogel.
Rwy'n gallu ymddwyn yn briodol ar-lein, gan gadw fy hun yn ddiogel ac ymddwyn mewn modd cyfrifol.
Cam cynnydd 5
Rwy'n gallu gwerthuso ymddygiad ar-lein yn barhaus, gan ystyried canlyniadau gweithredoedd; cymryd camau i leihau risgiau i ddiogelwch; ystyried safbwyntiau byd-eang a diwylliannol ac addasu ymddygiad yn unol â hynny.
Rwy'n gallu esbonio materion moesegol amgryptio corfforaethol, e.e. cynnwys system osgoi.
Rwy'n gallu adnabod y risgiau a'r defnydd o ddata/gwasanaethau ar ddyfeisiau personol, o fewn telerau ac amodau ystod o wasanaethau meddalwedd a gwe, a nodi sut y mae sefydliadau yn sicrhau eu bod yn cydymffurfio â rheolau data wrth ddefnyddio cynhyrchion amlwladol.
Da gwybod
- Unit 2 is tied to one tool, page 22: "Learners will require access to Python 3." Learners must sit the Unit 2 examination in the Python IDLE version named in the pre-release, using Tkinter for interfaces.
- Any programming environment is allowed for teaching, page 22: "Centres may use an IDE of their choice for teaching programming knowledge and skills." KS3 can use Scratch before moving to Python.
- No notes are allowed into the Unit 2 examination, page 28: "learners are not permitted to take any prompts or notes into the examination." Pupils must be able to code from memory.
- Unplugged, non-digital work is encouraged but not assessed, page 27: "undertake ‘unplugged’ learning and development activities to help bring to life computational concepts".
- There is no NEA. Both units are examinations, page 5: Unit 1 is a "Digital examination: 1 hour 30 minutes" and Unit 2 is an "On-screen examination based on a pre-released brief: 2 hours".
Cysylltiadau â chymwysterau eraill
GCSE Digital Technology shares the binary data representation, compression calculation, cyber threats (phishing, social engineering, man-in-the-middle attacks), data validation and legal and ethical content, and its practical work also involves coding (JavaScript arrays, string methods and form validation), so Years 7 to 9 work on these skills serves both GCSEs; the binary, logic and storage calculations also draw on Mathematics number skills.
