GCSE Computer Science
Mae disgrifiad y cymhwyster yn Saesneg yn unig, gan ei fod wedi ei gymryd o fanyleb Saesneg CBAC.
Both units are sat on screen. Unit 1 tests theory (algorithms, data representation, networks, cybersecurity, logic, the systems development life cycle) and Unit 2 asks learners to design, write, test and refine Python 3 programs with a Tkinter interface in IDLE against a pre-released scenario. The single biggest thing KS3 should build is confident algorithm design and debugging: pupils who can decompose a problem, write it as a flowchart or pseudocode, then code, test and fix it arrive ready for Unit 2.

Sgiliau sy'n defnyddio Iechyd a lles
-
Weighing the legal, ethical and environmental impact of technology
Learners are aware of issues around manufacturing and disposing of hardware, automated systems and AI, network privacy, and intellectual property in software development.
DCF: Hawliau digidol, trwyddedu a pherchenogaeth, Iechyd a lles
Paratoi disgyblion
- Blwyddyn 7
- Pupils remix a shared Scratch project, credit the original creator in the notes, and discuss why copying without credit is plagiarism.
- Blwyddyn 8
- Pupils research where an old school laptop goes when it is thrown away and present the environmental impact on one PowerPoint slide.
- Blwyddyn 9
- Pupils debate whether an AI-driven automated system, such as a self-checkout or driverless car, should be allowed, using legal and ethical arguments.

Cam cynnydd 3
Rwy'n gallu deall mai llên-ladrad yw copïo gwaith eraill a'i gyflwyno fel fy ngwaith fy hun.
Rwy'n gallu adnabod dylanwadau cadarnhaol a negyddol ehangach technoleg, e.e. ar fy mywyd, ar gymdeithas, ar yr amgylchedd.
Cam cynnydd 4
Rwy'n gallu deall hawlfraint ac esbonio elfennau cyfreithiol a moesegol parchu gwaith creadigol, e.e. ystyried goblygiadau moesegol a chyfreithiol lladrad a llên-ladrad a gwybod bod hynny'n anghyfrifol ac yn amharchus, ac rwy'n gallu defnyddio fy nealltwriaeth o’r rheolau a’r rheoliadau mewn gwahanol senarios.
Rwy'n gallu ymddwyn yn gyfrifol fel curadur a defnyddiwr gwaith creadigol, e.e. ystyried penderfyniadau y mae’r crewyr yn eu gwneud wrth arfer eu hawliau a’u cyfrifoldebau creadigol, gan ystyried materion moesegol, bywyd go iawn.
Cam cynnydd 5
Rwy'n gallu deall y dadleuon cyfreithiol a moesegol sy'n gysylltiedig â defnyddio gwaith creadigol pobl eraill; ac rwy'n ystyried safbwyntiau’r crëwr gwreiddiol, cynulleidfaoedd posibl, a'r gymuned ehangach wrth ddefnyddio deunyddiau sy'n perthyn i eraill.
Rwy'n gallu deall y cyfrifoldebau cyfreithiol o ran cael gwared ar dechnoleg a’r effaith amgylcheddol sydd ynghlwm wrth hynny.
Da gwybod
- Unit 2 is tied to one tool, page 22: "Learners will require access to Python 3." Learners must sit the Unit 2 examination in the Python IDLE version named in the pre-release, using Tkinter for interfaces.
- Any programming environment is allowed for teaching, page 22: "Centres may use an IDE of their choice for teaching programming knowledge and skills." KS3 can use Scratch before moving to Python.
- No notes are allowed into the Unit 2 examination, page 28: "learners are not permitted to take any prompts or notes into the examination." Pupils must be able to code from memory.
- Unplugged, non-digital work is encouraged but not assessed, page 27: "undertake ‘unplugged’ learning and development activities to help bring to life computational concepts".
- There is no NEA. Both units are examinations, page 5: Unit 1 is a "Digital examination: 1 hour 30 minutes" and Unit 2 is an "On-screen examination based on a pre-released brief: 2 hours".
Cysylltiadau â chymwysterau eraill
GCSE Digital Technology shares the binary data representation, compression calculation, cyber threats (phishing, social engineering, man-in-the-middle attacks), data validation and legal and ethical content, and its practical work also involves coding (JavaScript arrays, string methods and form validation), so Years 7 to 9 work on these skills serves both GCSEs; the binary, logic and storage calculations also draw on Mathematics number skills.
