Reading Welsh Festival Reviews to Compare Opinions and Evidence

Three online reviews have been posted about Gŵyl Cerdd Glan Taf, a youth music and street-food festival. Today you will separate facts from opinions, check each reviewer’s figures against the official festival timetable, spot a fake review, and write your own balanced Welsh response.

While the register is called: write your name, class and date on your worksheet, then look at Section 1 and Section 3 (the glossary) on the stimulus sheet.

Starter question: Look at Review 3 (by @BwydGorau99). What time was Review 3 posted, and what time did the festival gates actually open in Section 2?

Step 2: Fact-check the reviews against the festival timetable

Compare the claims in Reviews 1, 2 and 3 against the official festival poster in Section 2 of the stimulus sheet. Complete the verification table in Step 2.

Check these figures carefully:

  • Youth ticket price: Cai says £12; @BwydGorau99 says £25. What does the official poster say?
  • Number of bands: Cai says 8 bands; @BwydGorau99 says only 2 bands.
  • Shuttle bus (Bws Gŵyl): Elen says the last bus was due at 20:30; @BwydGorau99 says there are no buses at all.
  • Drinking water: Elen paid £3.50 for a bottle, but what free option on the poster did she miss?

Quick self-check before handing in

Check your answers against the board before your worksheet is collected.

  • Four phrases: yn bendant (definitely) · ar y llaw arall (on the other hand) · yn anffodus (unfortunately) · o’i gymharu â (compared with).
  • Fact vs Opinion: Ticket prices (£12), band counts (8) and bus times (20:15 vs 20:30) are facts; adjectives like anhygoel, blasus iawn and rhy ddrud are opinions.
  • Source check: Review 3 is fake (anonymous, posted 2 hours before opening, wrong figures, spam link).
