Is the Best Value Gem Pack Really Best Value?
DCF: Citizenship → Health and well-being
Pupils practise logical reasoning in a PSE / Well-being context about spending in games. Using the invented gem shop of a free-to-play game, they work out the cost per 100 gems of five packs and check it another way, disprove the "best value" badge and the claim that bigger packs always give cheaper gems with counter-examples, and justify the cheapest way to buy an 800-gem item by comparing every option. They test claims about mystery boxes, such as "20 boxes guarantee a legendary item", against the 1 in 20 chance and a simulation, and write a short argument with numbers for a younger cousin. Helps pupils see how in-game currencies and random rewards can hide real costs.

Calculating Proportions and Planning a Community Food Bank Budget
DCF: Data and computational thinking → Data and information literacy
Pupils explore religious teachings on charity and stewardship (Zakah at 2.5% of savings above the nisab, Sikh Sewa and Langar, Christian Agape and Jewish Tzedakah) through an invented interfaith community pantry in Cwm Teg. They calculate 2.5% Zakah contributions on 4 annual savings examples, scale a nutritious 3-day family parcel for 4 people within a £15.00 unit budget while filtering donated stock against halal, kosher and lacto-vegetarian dietary rules, and justify their budget breakdown.

Editing a Shared Document about a Gurdwara Visit
DCF: Interacting and collaborating → Collaboration
Pupils sort out a group of Year 8 pupils writing a report of a gurdwara visit in one shared online document, printed so no computers are needed. They judge 3 comments and a suggested change for whether they are kind, specific and useful, read the version history to find who deleted whose work, and write roles and ground rules for working together. They then proofread the draft for 12 errors, correct a wrong fact about the langar and a disrespectful phrase about head covering, and reorder the paragraphs. Finally, they rewrite the langar paragraph for the school website, explaining langar and seva accurately and respectfully, and proofread their own version.

Calculating Means and Anomalies in an Insulation Investigation
DCF: Data and computational thinking → Data and information literacy
A numeracy lesson in Science on calculation and data literacy. Pupils analyse a table of 4 repeat temperature drops (in degrees Celsius over 15 minutes) for 5 insulating materials tested by an invented Year 8 class. They identify an anomalous reading caused by a cardboard lid left off a beaker, calculate the mean temperature drop with and without the anomaly to show why anomalies must be excluded before averaging, work out ranges, final temperatures and percentage heat loss from an 80 degrees Celsius start, and write a structured conclusion linking trapped air pockets to thermal conduction.

Modelling a Bike Ride with Speed Formulae
DCF: Data and computational thinking → Problem-solving and modelling
Pupils plan an invented 30 km sponsored bike ride along a Welsh cycle path by designing a spreadsheet model on paper, with column headings, units and cell formulae, and running it to predict the total time and arrival time. They test the model against a practice ride's distance-time graph, find and fix two errors in a classmate's formulae, and change inputs for a headwind and a rest stop to decide whether the group will catch the minibus. Along the way they write the speed formula in symbols, rearrange it for distance and time, translate it into spreadsheet notation and convert between hours, minutes, km/h and m/s. No practical work.
